Melissa officinalis

Lemon balm is a perennial herb from the mint family. The leaves, which have a mild lemon aroma, are used to make medicine and for flavoring foods and beverages. Used alone or as part of various multi-herb combination products, it seem to have a sedative and calming effect. It might also reduce the growth of some viruses.


Sambucus nigra

It has excellent edible, medicinal and other uses. The fruit is used to add flavor and color to preserves, jams, pies, sauces, and is used to make wine. The flowers are crisp and somewhat juicy, have an aromatic smell and flavor and are delicious raw as a refreshing snack. They are used as in making sparkling wine and excellent sweet tea, stewed fruits, jellies and jams because they add a nice muscate flavor.

Sage has a very long history of effective medicinal and culinary use and is an important domestic herbal remedy for disorders of the digestive system. The whole herb is antihydrotic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, stimulant and tonic.


Achillea millefolium

Yarrow has a high reputation and is widely employed in herbal medicine, administered both internally and externally. It is used in the treatment of a very wide range of disorders but is particularly valuable for treating wounds, stopping the flow of blood, treating cold, fever, kidney diseases etc. The whole plant is used, both fresh and dried, and is best harvested when in flower.

Thyme is also thought to have antibacterial, insecticidal, and possibly antifungal properties.
